Potatoes, Waifus, Dreams, Sandstorm, and Mexi-Everything

The Grand Theft Auto V review will go up Thursday; I just finished it last night, and need a little more time to gather my thoughts. No podcast again this week; life got in the way this time, hoping to get one up next week.

Today, I'd like to talk about the time vortex that is Salty Bet.Salty Bet is a 24/7 play money casino where you bet on the outcome of MUGEN AI matches. When you first create your account(for free), you're given 400 salty bucks with which to place wagers. If you lose all of your salty bucks, you will recieve a small bailout: 10 salty bucks to start, with the amount increased as you level up. Leveling up on Salty Bet is as easy as placing wagers on matches, win or lose, with certain thresholds granting the level up. Salty Bet also runs on proportional payouts, with all the play money being contributed by other bettors.

Also available is the Illuminati subscription package, which increases your bailout amount to 666 salty bucks, and gives you access to a private forum, character statistics, your entire bet history/results, and more. Illuminati status is available on a monthly basis for $3.99, a quarterly deal for $8.95, and a year for $30.00.

Memes

Darude - Sandstorm: If you ask about any song played on the channel(There are quite a few, some from prominent game soundtracks, and others are just songs that Salty himself enjoys.), the chat will almost always unanimously respond with Darude - Sandstorm.

Potato - A character with an incompetent AI. Likely used because the character has all the fighting skill of a potato. Variations include "I didn't want fries with that bet.", "Potato Battle", "Baked Potato", and others.

Dreams - A match where an upset is in sight, with good odds. Some salty bettors consider 1:1 odds to be dreams at times, due to the often lopsided nature of some matches, with odds commonly reaching 100:1 or worse.

Waifu - Any female character with an anime look. Commonly bet on if never seen before, mostly due to the high power level of characters from the Melty Blood and Touhou franchises.

Mexi - A prefix used to point out the grossly overpowered aspects of a particular character, stemming from the common overuse of these attributes in the Mexican MUGEN creation community. A character with mexihealth takes almost no damage, amd a character with mexidamage can deal with that, while commonly taking 25% or more off of a regular character in a single hit. One of the most common variations is the mexibeam, a beam super attack so overpowered it can often end rounds in a single hit.

Always bet/never bet - Commonly stated about a character archetype, whether it's MS Paint, DBZ, 3D, or waifu. Never bet is more common with DBZ(until that character wins, in which case the opposite will be spammed)

DBZ - Characters from Dragonball Z are the cause of a lot of upsets on Salty Bet. Generally potatoes that like to run away and charge meter, they commonly have 2 mexiattributes that can lead to them stealing games away from more well rounded characters.

Tips and Tricks

While in the salt mines(having gone bankrupt and received your bailout), it's in your best interest to go all in on the underdog. You don't lose anything for losing, and you have the potential to gain a large amount.

Bet against the majority of chat. A lot of new users tend to fall into the trap, and trust what they're saying, which is why they almost always lie.

If you've never seen a certain character or matchup before, don't be afraid to just pick a side and bet 1-5 salty bucks. You don't risk much this way, and could gain a lot. It's also not a bad idea to sit back sometimes and just watch, if you're unsure how it will play out.

Don't take it too seriously. It's a lot of fun with a few friends and a few drinks, when you've got a few hours to kill and nothing better to do.

Always never bet DBZ.
